Sorry no one has responded yet.

You should be able to install the drivers locally and the release will
leave them alone except when it does major OS updates (like from Solaris
8 to Solaris 9), at which point you can install them again.

Putting the bits in the release is a certain amount of extra work and a
certain amount of potential for pain. (The last time we said yes to an
"it would be nice if this were in the release" for the sake of one user,
it was for a hackish /dev/random add-on, and it created recurring bugs
throughout the lifetime of the Athena 9.1 release.)

That said, it might not be such a big deal if this is actual Sun
hardware. It might just be a matter of modifying a list to install a
driver already included in our Solaris 9 materials. Garry (who is on
vacation) or miki might know more. But it would also be helpful to know
what the Sun XVR-1000 buys you that the previous graphics card did not.
