As promised, Red Hat has just end-of-lifed 6.2 and 7.0, promising no more
updates for either. This leaves Linux Athena 8.4 out in the cold, but I
really don't think we care.

Unfortunately, this also marks the split of "Red Hat Linux" and "Red Hat
Enterprise Linux" as two more distinct products. The latter is not
really useful to us, while the former is going to have a support window
of about a year. Specifically, the Red Hat release underlying 9.1 will
be desupported at the end of 2003, and the support for the release
underlying 9.2 is only promised through April, 2004. Note that this is
before end-of-life for Athena 9.2.

Realistically, I suspect that Red Hat 9.0 will have its support window
extended, but it does look like supporting security updates for the last
Linux Athena release or two is going to get more annoying. (Although,
cynical or not, I think that continuing to use our own sendmail and
openssh packages will solve a lot of that problem...)
