We should also review this as part of ART planning.

Here is Naomi's Top Ten Reasons for an item to be on the Release
Request List. They are in no particular order. If there are any that
I have left out, please add them. (Don't worry about going above 10.)
I believe that we need to come to a first order consensus on their
relative priority:

1. It makes our general use cluster machines more maintainable and secure.

2. It adds general functionality (ease of use, ability to get common
tasks done) that will benefit the average user.

3. It is required for us to run a needed third party software package.

4. It fixes something that doesn't work (i.e. a bug fix).

5. It enables us to purchase hardware from one of our major vendors.

6. It moves us closer to compatibility with the operating systems and
file systems of the marketplace. (Related to #5, possibly can be
combined with it.)

7. It will make it easier for us to do system software maintenance,
releases, upgrades, etc, in the future.

8. It enables the average faculty member or TA to use Athena more
easily in the pursuit of instruction (courseware, OLTA, etc) and thus
encourages more effective use of our infrastructure.

9. It is requested by a particular faculty member or small group of
faculty members for a particular purpose.

10. It enables departments to leverage the hardware that ACS grants so
as to reach more people, particularly graduate students.
