The Athena 9.1.22 patch release is currently scheduled for the evening
of Monday January 20. Changes include:
* A framework has been added to keep local copies of lockers on
workstations. For now the acro locker will be copied local;
others may follow. The "-M" or "--master" option to attach will
cause the master AFS copy of a locker to be attached in case there
is a problem with the local copy.
* The local DNS cache's list of root servers has been updated.
* oaf has been upgraded, which will hopefully fix the Evolution
wombat startup error.
* ftpd will now accept Kerberos connections with addressless
tickets.
* On Linux, man -k should search Athena man pages as well as system
man pages.
* On Linux, a framework has been added for disconnected operation.
Set DISCONNECTABLE to true in /etc/athena/rc.conf for more
graceful off-network operation. The current level of support is
far from optimal, but hopefully better than nothing. See
http://web.mit.edu/disco-athena/www/ for more information.
* On Linux, /etc/athena/athinfo.access will no longer be overwritten
by updates.
* On Linux, the arts, kernel, qt, samba, and xinetd RPMs have been
updated to keep current with Red Hat 7.3.
* On Linux, the mkinitrd RPM has been modified to avoid using the
loop device driver, since we've seen hangs trying to unmount a
loop device during mkinitrd.
* On Solaris, the MACHINE value in rc.conf will be fixed; it was
empty on machines installed at 9.1.
* On Solaris and Linux, OpenAFS has been upgraded to version 1.2.8.
* On Solaris, patches 108434-10, 108435-10, 108528-17, 108987-12,
109147-21, 111111-03, 111697-04, and 112396-02 have been applied.
If you have a machine set AUTOUPDATE=false, you can update it manually
after the release goes out by doing a console login as root and
running "update_ws".
