I drafted a note to send to multi-partition Sun users.
Garry produced a list of contacts from Greg's list of systems.
Enclosed is the note I suggest we send, and the sorted list of
owners and systems.
We have 78 systems to deal with now that mine is re-installing.

---- Note to multi-partition Sun users ----
About a year and a half ago, Athena installs on Suns changed from having
separate root, usr, and var disk partitions to one single partition.
Doing this enabled us to quit worrying whether installed software would
overflow some arbitrary boundary. With the advent of bigger disks, it
is clear that there has been great value to bringing more and more
software local and not worrying about needing to re-partition the disk.
We would like to enable Athena Suns to run faster by bringing more
software onto the local disk. Now there are between 50 and 100
systems in the field that have the old partitioning scheme. Such
systems, even if they had plenty of free disk space, would overflow one
or more partitions.
If we could get rid of the multi-partition systems, it would greatly
simplify our release planning, and would enable us to make ambitious
performance enhancements by bring a LOT of stuff local. It would also
enable us to change to a cleaner way of installing the Athena software
on top of Solaris.
But we would like to minimize inconvenience to customers.
Our records show you as the contact person for the following
multi-partition Suns:
<list of systems>
If any of these systems have no local data, we would like to re-install
Athena on them.
Are there systems listed where it would be an inconvenience to you if
Athena were re-installed?
How can we work with you to offer cleaner and faster Athena on Sun while
minimizing your inconvenience?
