I've updated the page
http://web.mit.edu/release/www/laptop-athena.html
to contain the latest findings on making systems work and work-arounds
for the non-ideal behavior.
With this documentation in place I feel comfortable saying the IBM
configurations, even the SXGA+ config are supported.
