1. Status
Greg took notes instead of Bill this time, so they appear here:
Goals from last month:
Progress: Deploy usable test Netscape 6.2.x
Delayed: Begin testing Netscape 6.2.x
Progress: Prepare draft of 9.1 user release notes
Delayed: Craft and test DOS floppy fix for etherboot problem
Progress: Get Andrew locker working on Linux
Progress: Portability fixes for Nautilus
Cancelled: CellServDB pruning (we will instead go with fake-stat
patches, either in IAP or in the 9.2 release)
Done: Early release
Done: Testing and fixing of early release
Progress: Disconnected operation prototype
Done: Remove final restricted packages
Other accomplishments:
Security patch releases for Linux and IRIX
Fixed Linux installer for IBM machines, new hardware
New goals for next month:
Public Athena release
9.1.12 patch release, containing at least:
* Fix for sshd destroying krb4 tickets
* Remove or patch Solaris apache package
* Various other small bug fixes
2. Local lockers
We will go ahead with Greg's locker mirroring plan. [No set
deployment date; depends on how long it takes to do the work. No set
resource assignments yet; students may do some of the work.]
In the future we might think about how to distribute non-release
software using a software installation model, but right now it's
difficult to conceive of abandoning the locker model (which lets
people run software on cluster machines and on machines with limited
disk space).
