One suggested change, to the first sentence:

I think "non-graphical" is better than "terminal" for a naive user, and
the last part could be a bit more readable; how about:
Pine is a popular menu-based, non-graphical email client. It is
particularly useful for reading and sending mail when logged in
remotely to an Athena workstation, e.g. via dialup, telnet, or ssh.
Also, at the end, where we direct the user to other info, perhaps we should
include a pointer to the Univ. of Washington online doc; I noticed they
have a tutorial at:
http://www.washington.edu/pine/tutorial.4/index.html
