The Athena 9.1 early release is currently scheduled for the evening of
next Monday, June 17. At that time, machines in the alpha, beta, and
early clusters will auto-update to the 9.1 release if they are set
AUTOUPDATE=true.
We try not to have data-destroying or severely inconveniencing bugs
during the early testing period, but there may be some glitches.
To manually update an AUTOUPDATE=false machine to the 9.1 release, do
a console login (^P at the xlogin prompt) as root and run:
SOLARIS:
detach -a
attach -O dev-sun4sys-91
update_ws
IRIX:
detach -a
attach -O dev-sgisys-91
update_ws
LINUX:
update_ws 9.1
System release notes are in
/afs/dev.mit.edu/project/relnotes/rel91.html. User release notes will
hopefully be available by "help" by the time the early release goes
out. The biggest change is the switch from xmh to Evolution for the
default GUI mail client, and from nmh to Pine for the recommended tty
mail client. The old mail clients are still present and supported, of
course.
Please report any problems you see using the "sendbug" command. If
you have any questions or comments, please send them to
release-team@mit.edu.
