The release team met on July 20 to discuss the Athena 7.7 patch release
and 8.0 full release. The following summaries the current plans for
these releases:
1. 7.7 Patch Release
What will be included
AIX 3.2.5
vold
/etc/services, /etc/system changes
shared memory turned on
xlogin security fix
revised printing software
new root password
find fpu's on DECstations (from Steve Ellis)
Which platforms
Sun, IBM, SGI
When this will occur
Beta 7/25/95
Early 8/1/95
Field 8/8/95
Who will do what
Craig modify packs
Dot make hesiod changes
notify testers
Kevin publicity
2. 8.0
8.0 for the SGIs will go out sometime in mid-August and will go to
the field.
This release will be documented separately from the 7.7 patch
General release 8.0 will probably go to test early this fall, but
exact plans have yet to be determined.
General Notes:
There will be a short period of time with root password skew, but
this is not expected to be a problem.
The SGIs will get the new Andrew software, but the rest of the Athena
platforms will not until they go to 8.x.
