This evening, for reasons that aren't entirely clear, all
cluster O2s and many Athena 8.4 Suns crashed. The Suns, all of which
would have been private workstations, should have rebooted; SGIs will
need to be powercycled to reboot.
Efforts are underway to analyze the nature of the problem, but
we don't have a good understanding of it at this time.
The current OLC motd reads as follows:
>> For unknown reasons, a large number of Athena SGIs (all versions) and
>> Athena 8.4 Suns (not the current release) have crashed overnight.
>>
>> Athena Server Operations is investigating the situation. As of 6:15am,
>> we don't have any explainations to offer.
>>
Users are likely to notice this problem, so you may wish to
preemptively reboot any affected SGIs you happen to be near. The SGIs
will be obviously crashed, displaying a kernel panic message as well as
a message to the effect of "press reset to continue" on their text
consoles.
We'll try to keep you updated as more information becomes
available.
