Since everyone else is jumping in here, I feel compelled to throw in my
$.02... As Kim mentioned, the way we do expunging is a carry-over from the
days when users' "lockers" were on NFS file servers. I'll take that further
and say that the _fact_ that we do expunging is a carry-over from the
NFS days. So, with our current AFS environment, I don't think it is
clear that _any_ automatic expunging needs to be done (either from central
server or servers, or via users' dotfiles, or any other way). It would
be good if we could first decide whether any sort of automatic expunging
is necessary at all, before we spend any time on deciding how to do it.
