Hi. Last Monday's patch release resulted in a number of unanticipated
problems on the Linux platform, the most notable of which is that many
GX150s were put in a state where they had slow or no network
connectivity. Tomorrow evening we will be deploying a patch release
which does a better job of ensuring good network performance on those
machines.

Machines with slow network should take the patch release and develop
normal performance. Machines with no network obviously won't be able
to take the patch release without help. We will be fixing the cluster
machines in that state; private machines can be fixed by running:

  boot: linux single
  insmod 3c59x
  /etc/init.d/network start
  mii-tool -R
  reboot

This will cause the machine to come up with slow network performance;
it can then take the patch release and get normal performance.

If you have a machine set AUTOUPDATE=false, you can update it manually
after the release goes out by doing a console login as root and
running "update_ws".

Please send any questions or comments to release-team@mit.edu.
