1. Solaris 9

We will use the Solaris 8 February 2002 maintenance release for 9.1,
because we (still) think Solaris 9 won't be released in time.

We will think hard about doing an IAP release with OS upgrades for
Solaris 9 and maybe Red Hat 7.3 if it's out.

2. Solaris 8 patches and Athena patch release

We went over the list of patches Alex and Todd need for Java and
Netscape. Turns out that they overlap completely, and shouldn't cause
problems.

The patch release will go out to the dev cell next week, and to the
Athena cell on March 25th (during spring break).

3. Linux install

Derek will be working on a Linux installer which uses a floppy with a
kernel on it, instead of etherboot. This will let our installer work
on all hardware, although the kernel version has to match the kernel
modules in the miniroot.

He will also update the installer to use a newer kernel and OpenAFS.
Since OpenAFS doesn't currently have working memcache support, he'll
either get that working or use an ext2 filesystem on a ramdisk device.

4. Browser plans

We will go with Netscape 6 on Solaris and Linux.

We will either leave IRIX at Netscape 4, or come up with a Mozilla
lookalike. The problem with staying at Netscape 4 (besides that it
sucks) is that users will have to keep agreeing to the license
agreement whenever they go back and forth to SGIs.

5. Nautilus

We currently plan to put Nautilus in the release for 9.1, but wait
another year before putting it in the default login. We might change
that plan if we decide Nautilus performs acceptably on an O2 (our
current slowest hardware) and can decide in relatively short order how
to integrate it.
