We discovered a problem with the Linux update from 9.0.15 to
9.0.17 this evening after the release had gone out. GX150s attempting
to update would hang and never finish the update; we tracked down this
problem to a modprobe of the usb-uhci kernel module that appeared to go
into kernel wait and then never came back; this made a kudzu never exit
and so update_ws never exited. This is probably from one of the added
scriptlets in the athena-ws spec file.

You can tell if a machine is stuck in the middle of the update
if you look at the console and its in text console mode with
"reactivate: this workstation is in the middle of an update" printed
lots of times. If you get to the machine soon enough after it tried to
update, you'll also see some hash mark spew from rpm -h output.

We've developed instructions to get machines out of this state
and updated to 9.0.17 correctly, which will be going out to
release-announce shortly.

I've removed the 9.0.17 line from control-9.0 in the athena
cell so no more machines try to take the update.

Greg, if you have questions about any of this in the morning,
you should page me.
