Subseqnet to bugs[19749] and after lots of users came into the SIPB
office and complained about getting temporary home directories, I took
a walk through the w20 cluster's linux machines to reboot all the ones
that were exhibitting this pathology.
I found about 5 of them. I also found 5 that were sitting a the
single user shell prompt after fsck errors. This seems to me to be
too many for comfort, and may be indicative of some kind of pathology.
I also found 3 or 4 machines that had no root user in their
password files, and upon further investigation, had copies of /etc/group
instead of /etc/passwd.
This seems too strange to be a coincidence.
If these comments are misdirected or should be otherwise directed,
I apologize, and await instruction.
