This is a reminder that the Athena 9.0.15 (9.0.16 for Solaris) patch
release is currently scheduled for this evening, Tuesday September 4.
Changes in this patch release include:

	* panel-wrapper will now exit more quickly on logout.

	* The xcluster display is fixed up.

	* track has some new features used in the new Solaris
	  subscription file.

	* xlogin will now periodically check for a new motd file and
(less often) restart the X server, as it did in the 8.4
	  release.

	* attach will no longer hold locks while accessing a remote
file server, since that can take a long time.

	* The crash dialog is reenabled when an applet crashes, since
tasklist seems to crash occasionally (and having the
tasklist spontaneously disappear is worse than having a
dialog come up offering to restart it).

	* The panel icons have been updated and look a little bit
	  nicer.

	* Our nmh configuration can now deal with the message delivery
	  status content type.

	* xss now fails more gracefully when you try to demo a
	  nonexistent screen hack.

	* xss-button is now clearer about no longer supporting the
button height and width options, and will warn about unused
	  options.

	* On Linux, root dotfiles are now considered config files,
which means local mods will only be blown away when we have
a change, and a copy of the modified file will be saved.

	* On Linux, after this update, support is added for upgrading
RPMs not in the release list if they have been installed
locally. This means updates of SMP machines should start
working, since kernel-smp is in the new update-only list.
	  (But we haven't tested that.)

	* On Linux, after this update, RPMs listed in
/etc/athena/rpmupdate.exceptions will not be touched by
rpmupdate. (Just list the name of the RPM.)

	* On Linux, the openssl, procmail, telnet, telnet-server,
	  util-linux, xinetd, XFree86-3DLabs, XFree86-8514,
	  XFree86-AGX, XFree86-FBDev, XFree86-Mach32, XFree86-Mach64,
	  XFree86-Mach8, XFree86-Mono, XFree86-P9000, XFree86-S3,
	  XFree86-S3V, XFree86-SVGA, XFree86-VGA16, and XFree86-W32
RPMs are updated to fix security holes.

	* On Solaris, nscd has been disabled (as it was in Athena
8.4), since we believe it was causing spurious DNS lookup
	  failures.

	* On Solaris, a bunch of stuff from /usr/athena is now tracked
locally, which should improve performance (particularly
	  login time).

	* On Solaris, patch 110750-01 was applied to fix a Sparc 4
frame buffer problem which resulted in the xlogin owl and IS
	  bitmaps not being displayed.

If you have a machine set AUTOUPDATE=false, you can update it manually
after the release goes out by doing a console login as root and
running "update_ws".
