At today's W92 team leaders meeting an action plan to remedy the
problems of heat, congestion, and disorganization in the W92 test
cluster began to take shape.

The impact on the Athena Unix Platform team looks to be this:

At some point the Test Cluster will move out of its current office, and
into the alcove off to the side of the Watchmaker zone.

In the process, some systems from different stakeholders will go away,
and some new systems will come in.

jweiss and I inventoried the Athena Unix test systems and formulated a
plan for shrinking their footprint through the use of a "KVM"
(keyboard/video/mouse switch).

For those actively using the W92 Test Cluster, details follow that
inventory the systems, point out how it looks like we'll have a steady
state of 8 systems for a while, and proposing to plug those 8 systems
into a Belkin "Omni-View Matrix" that will allow any two of those to be
active on monitors at any one time.

There is an alternate plan, to use 3 4-way switchers, but then we have to
get clever about which systems are assigned to which monitor.

---- gorey detail ----

There are currently 10 planned systems, but they fudge into an 8 system
steady state because:

We have 9 systems now, but we probably won't need to turn on the Indy
between now and when it goes away in December. It can sit outside the
matrix.

We should, perhaps, put a GX110 system into the test cluster since none
is currently there. We could either punt this, wait till the Sparc 4
goes away in December, or put it outside the matrix, displacing the Indy
as necessary until December.
