1. xalf

Updating to xalf 0.12 does not make Red Hat 4 binaries work under
xalf; Greg thinks this is because the binaries use a different version
of the dynamic linker.

This will probably stay broken. f_ls and clueful users can use
NO_XALF to work around the issue on a per-entry basis; hopefully not
too many users will run into the problem.

2. General release problems

tasklist-applet crashes a lot. panel crashes occasionally.

3. 9.0.5

Greg has 9.0.5 prepared and tested, but will put in a couple of
tweaks before putting it out there:

	* Enable coredumps in the standard dotfiles (just for the
remainder of beta; will be reversed when we go to early)

	* set skip_sgi by default unless the dash interface has been
	  selected.

He will update the system release notes for the second item, and note
how to select the dash interface conditionally.

4. locker-maintainers mail

Greg will send mail about the new sysnames. Since we no longer have
an add warning for using compatibility, there is less motivation to
make symlinks, although the top-level "bin" convenience symlink still
won't work without them.

5. Linux updates

There is a new miniroot in production.

Some changes to the installer script (in
/afs/dev.mit.edu/system/rhlinux/installer) are pending.

6. Solaris update issues

We will need to create a cluster for private machines which can't take
the 9.0 update. Greg will make the list some time in the next couple
of weeks.

We will probably also make a cluster for the cluster Sparc 5/170
machines which will be replaced by Sunblades, and thus don't need to
take the 9.0 update. This cluster will list the 9.0 release with the
testing flag, so that the machines will still work when they are
replaced with Sunblades.

7. Staffing and other political stuff

We will most likely be going ahead with the new interface. Upper
management has a better understanding of how tight our staffing level
is, although it's still unclear whether we will ever get tb's position
back on a permanent basis.
