1. Alpha release
We went alpha, two weeks late. There don't seem to be a lot of
terrible OS update issues (though there have been some annoying ones),
but there are lots of issues with the Athena software. Beta will
probably be in mid-May.
2. Fate of gnome-terminal
An IRIX xlib bug seems to prevent correct use of the X multibyte input
method. The most obvious symptom is that gnome-terminal seems to
ignore the control modifier. We'll probably have to rebuild gtk such
that it uses the old XInput(). (Simply working around the bug in
gnome-terminal or using xterm instead wouldn't really solve the
problem; other apps could have the same issue.)
There is also a terminal issue observed by Greg in the past, but we
can't reproduce it any more. So gnome-terminal should be in
reasonable shape on IRIX.
3. Red Hat 7.1
Red Hat 7.1 is out. We may still have time to use it. But it uses
kernel 2.4, which requires OpenAFS. Garry will build a kernel module
as soon as Andrew supplies a machine running 2.4.
4. Sunblade installation
We except to be able to install them idiosyncratically (using rarp) by
the end of this week and normally in another couple of weeks.
