Er, my machine appeared to have started autoupdate around 5:30 last
night; I didn't touch it (aside from pings) until this morning when I
came in and found it at the blank screen.  

According to the version file it took the update, but is there anything
else you want me to look at, given the short update.log?  I've checked
for a couple of changes and they made it (athinfo.defs and tetex
scripts).
