attending: kevin, mark, jj, matt, bruce, craig, kevin, jhawk, mike, gary
supplies: 2.5 dozen

release (fire test) pretty much out and in use. items still in the
queue include mom (the deactivation notification in the login), K5
login, and emacs19.

posters out in the clusters. draft notes available on the web. kevin
is going to make hardcopy--probably a single page with references to
the electronic version.

craig, matt, jj, and jhawk will read and comment on the draft notes.

For Jan. 31--seem to be on schedule and working. only problem may be
emacs19. if necessary, craig may hold off on that and add it in
February.

Documentation process may need changes for summer, depending on what
happens with olh.

telnet discussion then took over the group. a writeup of that will be
available separately. key decisions (PLEASE read the writeup of that
meeting before flaming as the reasoning will be in those minutes as
soon as I write them):

1. every fallback gives a warning.
2. add "no fallback" as a functional option (-fascist)
3. add "old style" as a functional option (-sniffme)
4. make "-safe" equivalent to -ax with no fallback AND an initial
message indicating what this abstraction is doing. (craig/gary will
work together on wording of this message)
5. make default equivalent to -ax with fallback AND an initial
message indicating what this abstraction is doing.

[note: option names have not yet been determined. they will be
determined by the innocent..bruce, that is!]
