Agreed.

We don't really have the resources to do a Request for Proposals, and do
a lot of acquiring and testing.  Nobody really has suggested much in the
way of additional contenders.  Because of the expanding role of HP in
MIT academic computing, I did a quick sanity check and reported my
opinion that they're not really ready yet.

I suggest we plan to proceed with Dell, now that the test system
situation has been pretty much resolved.  Let us see what, if anything,
Gateway produces as a consequence of my initial overtures.  The trigger
for more action would be a report from someone that there is a clear
leader in low price and high Linux committment that we should
investigate.  At the present time no such vendor has come to my
attention.
