This is a reminder and an update about the 8.4.17 release. The
release is scheduled for this evening, but we are not going to do this
patch release for Solaris due to a bizarre unresolved bug. The
important changes were mostly for IRIX and Linux anyway, so we'll just
put off the Solaris update until IAP.
Changes in this patch release include:
* An output format bug was fixed in attach.
* The CMU entries in the Athena Kerberos configuration files
have been updated.
* Various bugs have been fixed in lpd.
* xscreensaver will now say whether or not a screen has been
locked due to idle time, by default.
* On Linux, ZIP250 support has been added for cluster machines.
* On Linux, a bug has been fixed in the program which reads
monitor information which could cause it to loop forever.
* On Linux, an AFS kernel module symlink was added for
multiprocessor machines.
* On Linux, dm should no longer spew output to the console.
* On Linux, verify should print status reports as it runs at
boot time.
* On Linux, the iputils, ypbind, dump, dump-static, and rmt
RPMs were upgraded and the gnorpm RPM was removed (upgrading
it would require an upgrade to rpm, which is too
destabilizing) to address security issues.
* On IRIX, an inetd.options file was installed to help prevent
misbehaving services from looping.
If you have a machine set AUTOUPDATE=false, you can update it manually
after the release goes out by doing a console login as root and
running "update_ws".
