When tec or someone comes in with a question like this, where SHOULD it
go? Would someone who understands /var/server/.private get back to Tom?

Subject: Question on /var/server/.private

Hi Bill,

I'm hoping you can answer this or point me to someone who can. I'm
trying to use /var/server/.private to do some customizations on some
private workstations, and I need to know when it is run. As far as I
can tell, it is run when mkserv runs, and probably when the system
takes an update.

I'm not quite sure that this is the proper file to use for my
purposes. What I need is a hook for a script that runs whenever a
system checks if an update is available, rather than one that runs
when the system takes an update.

One of the things that I want to use this script for is to generate
the /etc/athena/access file from a blanche list. That way, when an
Athena user is added to a lab mailing list, they will also get access
to the lab computers. There are a few other things that I'd like to
do with this, depending on the system, and all of them require
something more frequent than a few times a semester.

Is there anything already in Athena that would satisfy my needs?

Thanks,

	--Tom
