The Athena 8.4.15 patch release is currently scheduled for the evening
of Monday October 23. Sorry for the short notice on this one.
Features in this patch release include:
* Security issues were fixed in the discuss, olc, and lprng
servers, and in attach.
* The system bashrc has been modified so it will read
.bash_environment even if the csh environment setup has been
run.
* On Solaris, krb5's utmp handling has been modified again to
hopefully work around a Solaris library bug.
* IRIX patch 4068 was applied to fix a bug which fixes a
denial of service attack against portmap.
* We kludged ZIP250 drive support into our IRIX install.
* On Linux machines matching the cluster GX1 and GX110
hardware, DMA will be turned on to get a big boost in disk
performance.
* On Linux, the script to frob the X configuration on public
machines has been modified to special-case HP 90 monitors
and to deal with spaces in the existing settings.
* On Linux, the verify script for public machines will display
a progress meter.
* On Linux, /usr/include/{linux,asm} should reappear.
* On Linux, athena-ws is better about adding the SYNCCONFIG
variable to /etc/athena/rc.conf.
* On Linux, AFS should load on machines with SMP kernels.
* On Linux, the traceroute, tmpwatch, esound, usermode, and
sysklogd RPMs were upgraded to address local security
issues.
If you have a machine set AUTOUPDATE=false, you can update it manually
after the release goes out by doing a console login as root and
running "update_ws".
