This is a reminder that the Athena 8.4.11/8.4.12 patch release will be
going out this evening. (Due to a couple of bugs found during
testing, the version number will be 8.4.12 on Solaris, but is still
8.4.11 on other platforms.) This patch release includes the following
changes:
* The dash man page has been fixed to mention linux.
* machtype -d should work on Linux.
* dm will syslog when an account cannot be properly removed.
* Linux has support for update_server, correcting a previous
oversight.
* The Linux packages will properly add things to /etc/shells.
* On Linux, rpmupdate has been enhanced to report when it is
going to delete packages, to downgrade i686 RPMs (in
particular, the kernel RPM) for non-i686 systems, and to
support systems with a SCSI root disk.
* On Linux and Solaris, syncconf will make backups of
configuration files properly.
* On Solaris, the krb5 programs should be doing a better job
of updating utmp.
* On IRIX, reactivate will log properly if there are stale
user session records.
For machines set AUTOUPDATE=false, you can take the update, after it
goes out, by doing a console login as root (type Control-P at the
xlogin prompt) and running "update_ws".
Please report any bugs found using the "sendbug" command. Please send
any questions or comments to release-team@mit.edu.
