If the release stays on schedule, we'll need to put some new packs into
the athena cell for the "early" test phase which is currently scheduled to
start on January 10. (The field release is scheduled for Jan 31.) I know
this is a huge request for space, but if possible here's what I'd like:
Jan 8-9: vos dump the srvd.77 volumes from the dev cell to the
athena cell, and add two ROs for each (one on
the same partition as the RW, one on another
server in another machine room or on another
subnet)
Current approximate sizes:
decmips 283 Mb
rsaix 156 Mb
sun4 382 Mb
So, the RWs and the ROs will take up about 1.7Gb of space,
distributed over six different servers.
Jan 10: the "early" clusters start using the packs in the athena cell
Jan 10-27: possible changes to the packs in the athena cell
Jan 28: "freeze" packs in the athena cell, and add sufficient ROs
for production packs
Jan 31: the "public" and other production clusters start using the
packs
Notes for afsreqqies:
- I've always tried to distribute srvd volumes across servers and
machine rooms such that there is at most one current srvd volume
on any server (that is, we don't want two, big "popular" srvd volumes
on the same server).
- dumping from the dev cell to the athena cell, we need to give the
new volumes names that distinguish them from the current ones.
I suggest the new ones get names in the athena cell like:
system.{platform}.srvd.77jan
- at some point some of the older RO sites can be deleted from disk
- I'd be happy to work with an afsreq person on doing this...otherwise,
just let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!
