Over the past two days we've discovered some inconsistencies between
the 8.4 install and the 8.4 update under Solaris, mostly involving
whether a pile of operating system files get created as symlinks or as
hard links. Although we're not aware of any functional problems
resulting from this issue, we don't want to begin early test until we
can be sure that updated machines will be in a maintainable state and
won't require major surgery.
So, the early release will go out tonight for IRIX and Linux, but for
Solaris we will be delaying early for a short period of time--probably
between one and five days. I will send warning mail the day before
the early release goes out for Solaris.
Sorry for any inconvenience.
