1. Status

We are in beta.

Solaris had some OS update problems resulting in missing files.
Should be fixed this afternoon.

IRIX has no specific new problems we know of, but of course there is
the old problem with AFS and rev 1.x R5000 processors. We have now
pretty much ruled out a hardware solution (SGI doesn't have enough
replacement CPUs; 200MHz CPUs might still be a possibility, but we
don't know how much they cost). There is no particular new word on a
software solution, but we're hopeful. We think that disabling the
processor workaround in the kernel is probably reasonable if we have
to wait too long for a software fix.

Linux has had some problems reported, but not looked into yet.

Tetex had a few problems, which should be fixed this afternoon.

We're not sure whether printing works.

Registering for an account doesn't work yet; we have to make a sysname
symlink for Solaris, and probably try to build a Linux client.

jweiss reports having gotten logged out on a multi-headed machine, but
that might be the same xss problem we gave up on in 8.3.

We still don't have OS verification for Linux or Solaris.

We'd still like to change the resolution to 1280x1024 for the new
monitors on Linux.

2. Release notes

Heather has a draft. It's very short. She still has to integrate
third-party software information, and will send mail this afternoon.

3. Automatic xss

Fuzzballs has decided that xss should automatically save the screen
after some number of minutes and then automatically lock it some
amount of time after that. Current thinking is ten minutes for
auto-save and one minute after that for auto-lock.

Greg will look into doing this if it's easy. If it requires changes
to the xss driver code, it may not get done right away.
