The Athena 8.4 beta test phase begins tonight for Linux.
This release uses Red Hat 6.2, and will be the first fully supported
IS release for Linux. See /afs/dev.mit.edu/project/relnotes/rel84.tex
for a draft of the system release notes; draft user release notes will
be available soon.
Even if your machine is configured with AUTOUPDATE true, it will not
take the 8.4 beta release automatically. To take the release
manually, do a console login as root (type Control-p at the xlogin
window and log in as root using the text login display) and run:
cd /afs/dev.mit.edu/system/rhlinux/athena-8.4/free/RPMS
rpm -U athena-ws-8.4-0.i386.rpm
update_ws 8.4
During this beta phase, we do our best to maintain the stability and
correctness of test machines. However, this is a new platform, and
it's Linux, so it's hard. Also, bugs in the release software could
disrupt your work. Please send bug reports to testers@mit.edu if you
find anything wrong.
Here is a list of beta Solaris machines:

atrophel support-acs
