Message-Id: <200004121812.OAA06195@small-gods.mit.edu>

1. Solaris status

miki can't make it today. She gave status to Greg, though: we can do
a shortcut install using "tar" in just 25 minutes, if we want. The
down side is that we'll wind up installing an old release, and the
machine will have to take a patch release when it boots. We're not
sure if we're going to bother with this or not.

Garry says the long install takes 65 minutes on a Sparc 5/170.

2. IRIX status

The capabilities problem is mostly fixed; Bob still has to submit the
/etc/capabilities file or figure out how to deal with that.

dm is mostly working.

SGI won't classify the AFS->UFS core dump problem as a bug. There may
be a kernel setting we can use to work around the problem.

3. Linux status

Greg made a new boot floppy for the GX110 (it still works with the old
machines) to handle the slightly newer ethernet controller. He also
added defaults. [Post-meeting status: the X server comes up fine
after install, so video is fine. Sound will work after we make a
change.]

Greg will put AFS 3.6 in the source tree so we have an AFS which will
work with Red Hat 6.2. Thomas will try out a Red Hat 6.2 install.

Thomas has written a syncconf script, and is working on public
workstation verification.

We need a place to keep a master rc.conf file. We may also need a
place to keep a bunch of public workstation config files, depending on
how verification works. We chose $SYSPREFIX/athena-x.y/configs.

4. Other status

Greg updated gcc and perl.

Bill is making progress on Andrew for Linux.

5. AFS 3.6 for all platforms

There was some discussion over whether we want to go to AFS 3.6 on all
platforms, just to keep up. Greg will pull over source and to the
upgrade.

6. Licensing and Linux

There was some discussion over some new ideas on how to do licensing.
Since the llama group hasn't come to a consensus yet, I won't give
details.
