Yesterday I met with Jim Cooper the Account Executive from Dell Computer
Corp. responsible for working with MIT. I clued him in on our
requirements, and he gave me early news that the systems we've been
testing are about to be End of Life'd.

I checked in with Thomas, and we've been expecting this sort of risk in
the PC world.

Jim has agreed to get me a quote ASAP for the Low Profile Dell offering
that will be price-competitive, and as compatible as possible with what
we have been ordering.

I caught Marine before she placed the order for the 6 quickstations, and
told her to hold off until we got one of the new boxes to try. My
expectation is that the events will unfold like this:

	1. Jim will get us a quote, and it will be sane.
	2. We will get a test machine.
	3. Thomas will confirm that it works just fine.
	4. The 6 machines to be ordered will be of the new machine.
	5. The renewal will use the new machine as its basis.
	6. Brian's team will maintain BOTH the existing 23 and the
new machines for their full three year lifetime.

Cheers,

-wdc
