Oh, hey, I forgot something. At the end of item 2 (Solaris update):
The current install puts about 90MB of stuff in /usr. It is unlikely
that we can get this down to 60MB. This means that some class of
machines (which number around 40) won't be able to update without a
reinstall. Worse, they will automatically attach the new system packs
(and thus stop working) before determining that they won't be able to
take an update. We could fix this in a patch release, but they might
not take the patch release before 8.4 goes to field. So we'll have to
identify those machines and put them in a cluster which doesn't take
the 8.4 release.
