I don't think we want to use "-o bg" at all; I tried a few unsuccessful
mount commands (where the server was down, and where its mountd wasn't
running), and didn't see any difference between using "hard" or "soft".
(I didn't actually wait to see if it retried 10000 times in either case,
but it definitely hung in retry using "soft").  So, I think we should just
plan to change the default to "hard,intr" for 8.4.

[We might want to consider defaulting to a small number of retries, so a
login doesn't hang indefinitely.  But this is a separate issue from the
hard vs. soft decision.]
