Here is the information Alex gathered about versions of operating
systems necessary to run the next release of the various third party
software. We currently cannot run the latest version of SAS (6.09) on
the DECstation (needs 4.3) and RS/6000 320s (dunno why, device driver
problem). Also, the current latest version of Matlab (4.2) requires AIX
3.2.5.

Comment: most vendors said variations of "it's too early to tell", and "we
will support the version we develop on", and no guarantee of either
backward or forward compatibility, i.e. "AIX 3.2.5" do not necessarily
imply that it will or won't run on 3.2.3, or on 4.1
Amtek (Tecplot) said that a major criterion is that X11R5 libs must
be supported, AIS (Xess) said that Motif 1.2 must be supported
"?" means they wouldn't even give a hint
"no" means "this platform/OS is being dropped, or not available"
