From: Dorothy Bowe <dot@MIT.EDU>

In attendance:	JJ, Carla, Dot, Bruce, Matt, Craig, Mark, Gary, Kevin

1. Questions from last week

Carla asked if we will be talking about new suggestions, in
particular the recent suggestions regarding OLC. Yes, we will
periodically review new input beginning with next week's meeting.

2. Report on Action Items

Printer Support -- We decided that this is really two items, one
being mkserv print support for Solaris, and one being "recreate the
sources to build running print servers"

AFS Patches -- This means server and client patches from Transarc.
Richard knows what is in them. According to Matt the work is
underway and expected to be done by the first of the year, but there
are still some deployment issues to be settled.

More OLC suport -- This item was clarified to mean OLC support of any
kind. There was some discussion about whether this is really a
release issue or not but we decided to leave it in for now. It
basically means implementing bug fixes and recreating code for the
running server. Carla and Mike are discussing the bugs off line.

Sun compiler -- This means making suncc the default compiler *and*
building the Athena release with suncc.

Encrypted passwords and /etc/passwd -- This only affects DECstations
and while not a major problem for the general Athena population,
integrating the fix would help operations.

3. Discussion of items for January deployment

Most of the meeting was spent discussing items which had been flagged
for possible inclusion in a January release of some kind.
Particulars of the decision-making process are available from me
(Dot) for anyone who is interested. Three lists resulted from this
   discussion:

	a) Items we should include

	   ftpd security fix
	   /bin/login umask fix
	   Solaris patches
	   login.krb patch
	   RX layer patches
Get rid of "Too many groups" message
Hook for user on deactivation list
	   Discuss fix (edsc)
Secure zephyr clients	(Pending ongoing investigation)
	   Encrypted passwords in /etc/passwd
	   Default printer for enscript

	b) Items to include if possible

Emacs 19 in release along with Emacs 18.59
Make add use @sys links in addition to current behavior
Fix telnet error "Attach: command not found"

	c) Items still under investigation

Man page for the Athena man
	   Fix root's .profile

4. Schedule for January release

The tentative plan is to send the release through the usual two
cycles of testing and to hit the field at the end of IAP. Doing it
earlier could conflict with dcns-cluster's need to deploy new
   workstations.
