We have a couple more things to note about Monday night's Athena patch
release.

First, we noticed and fixed a small problem in the patch release
tonight, so it will have the number 8.3.23 instead of 8.3.22.

Second, we are going to change the mkserv configuration so that all
mkserv mail workstations will do direct delivery of mail. As we
previously noted, workstations whose names don't end with ".mit.edu"
will also do direct delivery of mail by default.

By "direct delivery," we mean that such machines will deliver mail
directly to the destination servers rather than passing it through an
MIT mail hub. If the destination servers are down, the mail will be
queued on the workstation's local disk instead of on a mail hub.
We're doing direct delivery for mkserv mail machines and non-mit.edu
machines because the new MIT relay configuration doesn't mesh properly
with mail aliases, mail forwarding, or mail from local users of
non-mit.edu machines.
