The Athena 8.3.21 patch release is currently scheduled for next Monday
evening, November 15. Changes include:
* SGI patch 3692 will be installed on IRIX machines in an
attempt to prevent them from hanging at random times.
* quota won't dump core on a bad option name.
* On IRIX, at boot time the passwd file will be mv'd into
place instead of copied over so that nscd doesn't pick up
an intermediate state of the passwd file.
* attach and quota are more careful to block signals when they
have attachtab resources locked.
* Filesystems defined in attach.conf should work again.
* zhm shouldn't dump core any more when the zephyr servers get
slow.
* The shrink buttons in xdvi work again.
* sendmail.cf now supports direct delivery or delivery via an
alternative mailhub. This is configured by
/etc/athena/sendmail.conf, which is written by syncconf.
The new rc.conf variable MAILRELAY controls what goes there;
with its default setting, machines which do not have names
matching *.mit.edu will deliver directly.
(Solaris machines using our DHCP support will do direct
delivery with the default setting of MAILRELAY. This is
less than optimal, but fixing that will require some work.)
* Some minor updates to the os volume and install/update
scripts were made for some unsupported flavors of Sun
hardware.
