1. Solaris 7 in 8.4

   Some issues:

     - It has 64-bit support. Do we want that?
Only for sun4u machines, so we'd need to maintain two releases.
       So no.

     - Do we want a new install system?

   Timeline:

     release July 1
     early June 1
     beta May 1
     alpha April 1
     c&b March 1

So 4 months to crash and burn, which is when we should be able to
     install and update by.

Miki will decide by the week of December 1 whether or not she'll be
able to fix the install/update system in time. (Fallback is to use
   the same old install system.)

We may need to desupport disks smaller than 1G. We may need to
require people with "pathological" disk partitionings to reinstall
from scratch. Greg will look at our disk partitioning data to
   determine the impact of this.

Another possible issue with going to a more standard install system
is that patch sets take a very long time to apply, because the
install code that ships with them is stupid. Miki will think about
   this.

2. 8.3.20

Should go out before Drop Date (11/17, two weeks from today).

To athena cell Monday 11/15, to dev ASAP.

Bob has a patch to hopefully fix the Irix hang. He'll put it in the
   dev cell today.

3. Mail

   Three-part problem:

     1) all bounces doublebounce -- fixed in 8.3.19

     2) bounces from non-MIT.EDU machines or local users doublebounce.
	fixable with "mkserv directmail"

     3) non-local mail to an alias on a MIT.EDU machine will bounce

Tom doesn't want to treat net18 different from non-net18, so we
   need to deal with these.

Dan will look at making syncconf be able to turn directmail on or
off without having to edit sendmail.cf.

(I think we forgot to come up with a solution to #3...)

4. Status updates

   PWS
Bill has been talking with Greg Anderson.
Greg A, Dan, and Miki need to get together for a pre-planning
meeting. Dan will send mail to Greg. Miki will talk to Vijay to
     make sure he's sponsoring us.

   Desktop
Karl and Greg met w/ Greg
     Composing the team now.
Dan, Thomas, Heather, maybe Abby, maybe Laura

Heather says Gary Dryfoos says it will take 3 months to update
the minicourse. Maybe more if he has to do it during the summer.
So that's good. Possible problems with summer minicourses
though... ("Here is how to use Athena, which will be mostly
     obsolete in a month.")

   Linux
Thomas has built and installed stuff. It mostly works. (Most of
the problems are because of untested stuff in src-current.)

We don't want the Linux release to be based on src-current, so
Greg will make a branch off the 8.3 release branch and pull stuff
     up to that.
