The Athena 8.3.11 patch release is scheduled for next Monday evening
(July 19). This patch release only affects machines running Athena
8.3, of course; the public 8.3 release will be coming later.
Changes include:
* The cmsd service will be turned off on Solaris machines in
/etc/inet/inetd.conf.
* The username is displayed for local password changes.
* xmore should work on IRIX.
* larvnetd can deal with lprng print servers better.
* The login library has a workaround for IRIX's caching of the
passwd file. This should make kshd work for users not in
the passwd file.
* There is a new config file installed, lpd.perms.
* The lprng script banner.pl has been renamed to banner.
* There are new lprng scripts check_unprintable and
reject_unprintable to reject printing of binary files.
* lpd will syslog all uses of control permissions at
level lpr.info.
* lpr won't look up the default printer if one is specified on
the command line.
* lprng won't ignore filters' exit status any more.
* The IRIX netscape app-defaults file is gone.
* emacs will use a user's components file, but still find the
default one in the right place.
* The Athena inetd won't lose on dgram/wait services like
busyd any more.
* xscreensaver will accept ^N (dvorak for ^L) to log out. Not
a perfect fix, but it should suffice for now.
* xscreensaver won't complain about being unable to get an
encrypted password from the passwd file if you specify one
in .xscreensaver.
* The xss-button documentation uses the correct resource name
for the screensaver command.
* kshd will clean up accounts more reliably.
