1. Athena 8.3.7 is gone into early release. Auto-update will be turned on
next week. We are now projecting general release about July 15.
2. We discussed mkserv testing. Questions include which ones are
documented, where, and what services are really needed. Action items:
Jonathon will check with CRL about why they are running mkserv ops. We will
also make sure that it is explicitly noted in the future when knfs has been
tested (it turned out that knfs operation with 8.2.19 had been tested, but
the knowledge wasn't as wide-spread as it could have been.)
5. There is concern about update times. The Suns take approximately 20
minutes, which should not be a problem. IRIX take approximately: o2, 2
hours; r5000, two hours plus; r4600, 4.5-5 hours. Action item: Bill Cattey
will talk to Naomi about how many r4600 are in the clusters and in private use.
4. NSD -- the IRIX Name Server Daemon. Bill Cattey and Bob Basch have a
technical contact who is looking at problems that we have had. SGI
indicates there may be a patch.
3. Athena 8.4 development. Questions: where are we trying to go with
Athena? Can Athena provide an alternative to "sys admins for rent out of
IS" (the IS Mobile Infantry -- IMF)? Discussion of a principal that the
private workstation should be in the feature set for Athena 8.4.
Greg's list of items:
- desktop
- private workstation
- hesiod native
- java
- imake goes away
- upgrades (os, etc.)
- setuid auditing
