1. NSD -- SGI name services driver has a bug with rlogin. Bob following up.
2. Zip drives -- question about what to do with new Sun systems. Bill will
investigate IDE zip; Oliver will let us know about SCSI boards.
3. Bill looking into Sun bugs. xrdb -cpp fixed. last truncates under
investigation at Sun (although Dan recommends we check the man page, and
look for an option to invoke it with utmpx)
4. Heather will bring a copy of the beta release notes next week.
5. Beta has been delayed slightly.
6. 300 MHz 02 seems to work fine.
7. Some updating of the release team with fuzzballs RFP information. Dan
and others have comments and questions about the use of SPARC4 as a
quickstation. They will talk directly with Naomi and fuzzballs.
8. There's a question about how to introduce bash dotfiles. E.g. should
they be put into the system and the user told to make their own local files?
Should creating a new account create the appropriate dot files? Runs into
questions for support, documentation, etc. Thomas is going to think about
the alternatives and get back to us.
One suggestion was that the chsh command provide instructions for setting up
your account.
there was a suggestion that sendbug be enhanced to include the shell and
window manager being used. Dan volunteered to make sure this was done
correctly.
9. Linux status -- the wash is almost working; after that the AFS and
startup.rc; followed by the install and upgrade. There is still significant
work.
10. SLW -- being fixed; sanity check new version, compile, install new.
Probably will hold off on changes until after end of term, since these were
mostly to support a new version of frame, and we don't expect people will
really want to switch at this point.
There was a question raised about why SLW is in a locker as opposed to being
in the release. We will discuss this question when greg is available.
Thanks,
Mike
