So much for odds against DUSP asking about forcing 24-bit on Ultra 10s
before teh end of the term...A while back you wrote:
* You don't actually set a 24-bit visual on afb or ffb by
running {afb, ffb}config -deflinear true. That may work by
coincidence, but what it's actually trying to do is make a
gamma-corrected visual the default, not a 24-bit visual.
What you're supposed to do instead is run something like
"Xsun -dev /dev/fb defdepth 24".
Can you confirm whether that's indeed the right command, and whether
the right way to revert is:
Xsun -dev /dev/fb defdepth 8
(I assume he's talking about afb machines in 1-115, but we can check
if you think it matters.)
Thanks,
Abby

Subject: 24-bit graphics on Ultra 10's
Is there a way to force an Ultra 10 into 24-bit mode? Because of
its flexible X server, ArcView always runs in 8-bit on an Ultra 10.
We are running a demo next week with some Ultra 10s and I'd like
to use 24-bit color if we can.
Thanks,
Tom
