OSs
Solaris 2.6 -- we can't upgrade without AFS
Irix 6.5 -- one potential difficulty is that 6.5 has a change in the default
library format. This will not affect existing binaries. However, when
recompiling, it will be necessary to rebuild libraries for proper linking.
2. Software license wrapper -- we are investigating. It appears that the
problem is more complex than simply not running, the processes appear to be
running.
3. Large binaries in classes. We are considering alternatives. One
suggestion is to have the TA run a script which copies the programs to local
disk. The drawback would be that when the system is a reinstalled, the
local copy would be lost. Our thought was that we should not ask Brian
Murphy to deal with this, but depend on the student running the normal
across-the-net copy when they don't have a local copy, and have the TA then
copy the program to local disk again. We are still thinking about possible
ways to help.
4. Bill Cattey has developed sample code for dealing with 24 bit visuals.
