Yes, we're all in agreement on this and will include your points in
our discussion with him.

We'll ask whether he noticed if it was running 8.2.17; in any case the
56-114 machine was reinstalled and we're asking them to hold off on
playing with the colordepth for a bit so we can do some testing.
We'll also pass along your info. on m64 patches so they can ask
ArcView support if they know anything useful.
Naomi says a shipment of Ultra 5s has just come in, and wants one of
these to go to the e40 test cluster if you don't have one already;
I'll check in with Brian about logistics. Would you have time to run
some simple tests if we get you detailed instructions on what he was
doing, or is there a watchmaker who could do this? (It sounds like he
wasn't doing anything with the app. aside from launching it, but if
it's more involved Craig or I could help with testing; we just want to
do this on a machine which isn't in a classroom.)

Understood. Given this and the points Bill outlined, it's obvious
that the general discussion needs to continue.
One naive question, since I don't grok how it all fits together: when
you were contemplating the pre-login idea, was the idea for the back
end something that could be used to provide some sort of manual
session-based switching by the user? Is there something less
persistent they could do than run m64config/afbconfig?

Yup, hotline reinstalled it...sounds like an unfortunate setup in
there, but I believe Craig's going to visit the room so we may have a
better handle on what we could tell people to do differently in case
of future crashes.
