LPRng in the release?

For the past couple months, I've been working on getting Patrick
Powell's LPRng package <URL:http://www.astart.com/lprng/LPRng.html>
compatible with the Athena environment, with the eventual goal of
replacing our existing print system. The main issue involves how to
handle kerberos compatibility.

LPRng has a native authentication protocol based on kerberos 5, which
is incompatible with the kerberos 4-based protocol used by the
existing print software. Its native protocol is more secure than our
current protocol, and I've been proceeding with the implicit goal of
eventually moving the entire infrastructure to this new protocol.

I currently have LPRng modified such that LPRng servers can
communicate with older kerberized printing clients. In order to cut
down on the amount of legacy protocol support we have to deal with,
I'd like to suggest that LPRng be added to the Athena release (for
8.3) without adding backwards-compatibility code to the LPRng clients,
and deal with upgrading all the Sun klpr servers (including
departmental print servers not maintained by ASO) before the release
goes out. It is our belief that, aside from the ASO-maintained
central print servers, this will only affect a handful of departmental
print servers, which I am willing to help the maintainers upgrade.

Is this reasonable?
