In one of the hallway conversations that occured earlier this week, it
came out that Roger has a problem where every Athena patch release
de-installs his UPS monitoring software. He sent me information about
it so that we could think about hte problem. I'm not bothering to
include the install file since it is large, and Roger's summary
explains the problem.

Roger, currently athena patch releases don't remove files unless there
is a specific reason to believe they should go away. However, with
the exception of a few configuration files, all files are reverted to
their defailt state. Based on your summary below, I'm pretty sure
that your problem is the stuff getting nuked from /etc/rc0.

Jonathon,

I forget the right mailing list. Here is the install file I use to install
Powerchute (UPS) software. It looks like it puts stuff in /etc/rc0.d, /etc/
rc2.d, and /etc/rc3.d. Also possibly in other files such as /etc/rc0. I was
guessing that /etc/rc*.d were getting reset and extraneous files cleaned out.
If not, then the problem could be the rc0 file.
