8.2.15 is being released monday evening 11/16/98. The patch release
includes the following changes:
* The quota command now blocks SIGTSTP while it has the
attachtab file locked.
* saferm can now remove symlinks to directories.
* console now ignores EIO, and syslogs when it gives up on a
file descriptor.
* A race condition has been fixed in xlogin and dm relating to
how they fork processes.
* dm will not decide that the console isn't working because of
multiple invocations of config_console, and will behave
better when it does decide that the console isn't working.
* A few buffer overrun bugs have been fixed in the olc client
library.
* The print server binaries have been fixed to handle
Windows-generated PJL files and some short Postscript files
not recognized by the printer's Postscript recognition code.
* Multiple bugs have been fixed in nanny. (It is unclear
whether they are related to the xlogin problems people
sometimes see on SGIs.)
* Buffer overflows were fixed in hostinfo.
* sshd is started with a proper environment by access_on, and
is invoked with an absolute path in argv[0] so it can
restart itself.
* Some buffer overflows (difficult or impossible to exploit)
were fixed in ssh and sshd.
* /usr/bin/adb is brought local on Solaris machines, since it
is used by the boot script.
* ihtfp.org has been added to the krb5.conf file.
* reactivate and the boot scripts nuke the emacs superlock
file, which is sometimes left behind.
* clean_tmp_areas should stop making noise about trying to
unlink ".".
* Solaris clients will syslog their root disk partition setup
(total size, root partition size, and usr partition size) to
the network, to help with release planning for 8.3.
* On Solaris, the SUNWafbgl package was installed and Sun
patches 106022-06, 105361-06, 105362-13, 105363-12, and
105633-12 were installed. This makes OpenGL work on the
Ultra 10s with Elite 3D, and makes it work a little better
on Ultra 5s (the colors are all wrong, but at least things
run at all).
