heather posters
3. Sun compiler
doc from Alex, available in info locker
needs review by someone - Greg & Heather
4. Alex updated purify
Irix has two object formats: o32 and n32. Native cc produces o32. GCC
produces n32.
Purify does not work with GCC on Irix. Note that gdb does not work with cc.
The good news is that Solaris use all OK.
5. User home dir backups
Athena server operations has noticed a rise in "user mistake" requests for
restore from backups, as opposed to the expected hardware failure restores.
They requested investigating a "backup home directory to zip disk" option
for dash. Abby is going to do some testing of mtools and see if this makes
sense.
There was a question of whether we are publicizing the use of delete over rm
enough. Our sense is that we may need to publicize this more because more
students are coming in "ready to use Unix" and are not as aware of the
differences.
6. 8.2.11 need boot
8.2.11 will be going out soon. There was discussion of ways of handling the
use of printd during the boot process. This was a side effect of the
earlier modifications to /usr/bin/lp. We agreed to use Greg's way.
